Ellen Hooper

Ellen Sturgis Hooper fue una poeta estadounidense. Miembro del Club Trascendental, fue considerada una de las poetas más talentosas.
    Nació el 17 de febrero de 1812 en Boston, Massachusetts, hija de William Sturgis y Elizabeth M. Davis. Su padre era un rico comerciante de Boston. Su madre era una mujer inteligente e independiente que pasaba mucho tiempo alejada de su marido, inspirando en su hija la idea de buscar la autorrealización.

En 1837, se casó con el médico Robert William Hooper, aunque sus amigos dijeron que no eran una buena pareja porque era intelectualmente inferior. La pareja tuvo tres hijos: Ellen Sturgis “Nella” Hooper, Edward William “Ned” Hooper y Marian “Clover”.

La poesía de Hooper fue comisionada regularmente por Ralph Waldo Emerson y publicada en The Dial.
    Hooper murió el 3 de noviembre de 1848 de tuberculosis a los 36 años. Se dice que su temprana muerte la “consagró en la memoria de sus asociados como un ángel Trascendental”.
